What does the job of a Delivery Driver entail?
A Delivery Driver is responsible for picking up and delivering packages or orders. You often work with a van, car or bicycle and interact with customers at the door. Your main duties are:
Pick up and deliver packages to customers or businesses
Driving routes based on a schedule or navigation system
Any recording of deliveries (signature or digital confirmation)
Checking that packages are complete and undamaged

To be successful as a Delivery Driver, this is what typifies you:
Good with time and schedule
Driving license B, AM or sometimes C (depending on the vehicle)
What does a workday look like?
Your day usually starts at the depot or warehouse, where you load your van, scooter or bike with packages. Then you drive your route, delivering orders and making sure customers are satisfied. Sometimes you record deliveries digitally or get a signature. At the end of your shift, you return your vehicle or report back to scheduling.
The profession of Delivery Driver does not require specific training. However, these are important steps:
Driving License for van or car
Driving License For vehicles over 3,500 pounds
Courses in customer service or safety are often a plus
Work experience in logistics or transportation will help you advance

From a position as a Delivery Driver you can advance to, for example, van driver, truck driver or logistics team leader.
As a starter, you will earn an average of €2,100 to €2,300 gross per month (21+, approx. €14.40 - €15 per hour). Depending on the company and your experience, this amount can increase. Evening and weekend shifts often yield additional bonuses.
A degree is not required. However, a mbo education in logistics or transportation helps if you want to grow further.
Typically, you will work full-time (36-40 hours per week). Part-time and side jobs are also very common in this position, especially in food delivery.
Working hours depend on the sector. In parcel and mail delivery you often work during the day and evenings, in meal delivery mostly in the evenings and weekends. Flexibility is key.

Do I need a driver's license to become a Delivery Driver?
Yes, usually you do. You need driver's license B for a van or car, license AM for scooters, and license C for larger vehicles. No driving license is required for bicycle delivery drivers.
Do I need to have experience to get started?
No, often you can start without experience. However, it is helpful if you can handle navigation and time pressure well.
How hard is this work?
It can be physical, especially if you lift or bike a lot of packages. Fortunately, there are tools, and you naturally build fitness.
Can I advance from this position?
Sure. Many delivery drivers advance to driver larger vehicles or positions in logistics, such as planner or coordinator.
