Role: Program Manager
Location: Amsterdam, the Netherlands (on-site)
Employment type: 1 year contract (extendable)
Introduction:
At Stichting Sub3, we fund high-impact organizations making a lasting impact on humanity and the planet across three thematic areas: Arts & Culture, Society & Humanitarian Aid, and Climate & Environment. We're seeking an impact-driven critical thinker to join our team and play a key role in further shaping our portfolio. This role will focus specifically on our Society & Humanitarian Aid work, which addresses three core themes:
- Transparency & Information: Nurture a public interest information ecosystem, open knowledge, and independent media.
- Reducing Inequalities: Create opportunities for marginalised groups, protect human rights & address root causes of suffering.
- Humanitarian Aid: Nonpartisan, secular first-response support during conflicts and disasters.
Established in 2021, Stichting Sub3 is a private philanthropic foundation guided by a three-member board. Our current team consists of the director, an investment manager, and a program manager.
Tasks and responsibilities:
In this role, you’ll:
- Lead on the further development of the Society & Humanitarian Aid portfolio.
- Support grantmaking in other Sub3 pillars and co-manage the grant portfolio in a systematic fashion.
- Collaborate closely with the director and the program manager to track sector developments, identify and engage with new potential partners, and prepare grant proposals for board review with close attention to detail.
- Manage the end-to-end grantmaking cycle, including the assessment of funding applications, from initial review through to monitoring outcomes, reporting, and active follow-up.
- Maintain ongoing partnerships, foster strong relationships with current and prospective grantees, and serve as their central point of contact, ensuring all communications and agreements are handled with precision.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date administration of the grant portfolio, facilitating board meetings to support informed decision-making through systematic documentation and follow-up.
Skills and Qualifications:
To excel in this role, you'll need:
- Capacity to work at an academic level, with maximum 7 years of professional experience in a field relevant to Sub3’s Society & Humanitarian Aid work (see above).
- Curiosity and drive for continuous learning and the ability to master new thematic topics quickly.
- The ability to assess systemic issues and apply an interdisciplinary lens to problems and solutions.
- Experience working in the impact sector, with proven experience managing projects in emerging economies.
- Experience or exposure to other topics in the Climate & Environment portfolio is an asset (nature, sustainable transport, energy transition, food and agriculture).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, capable of building meaningful relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
- A proactive, self-motivated approach to work, with the capacity to manage responsibilities independently and a pragmatic approach to decision-making.
- Fluency in both Dutch and English; additional language skills are an advantage.
What we offer:
Joining Stichting Sub3 means:
- A contract for 1 year with the intention to extend.
- Working for 36 hours a week.
- An office in the center of Amsterdam and receiving a healthy lunch.
- A salary in the range of €65-75k per annum. Based on experience.
