Acting Speech Therapist - De MARQ
For geriatric rehabilitation and recovery
Rehabilitation often revolves around small steps that become possible again. Someone who feels understood again. Daring to speak for themselves again. Being able to swallow safely or relearning to communicate in a different way. As a locum speech therapist at De MARQ, you help rehabilitation patients take those steps.
You work with people for whom communicating, eating, or drinking is no longer a matter of course. For example, after a stroke, surgery, or due to a neurological condition. Often, multiple problems are at play simultaneously, and the situation is complex. Together with the patient and their loved ones, you look at what is still possible and how they can function as independently as possible.
MARQ specializes in geriatric rehabilitation care and has locations in Breda (Molengracht), Etten-Leur, and Zevenbergen. We work based on the belief that recovery extends beyond the body alone. Collaboration, commitment, and practical thinking are central to our approach. With approximately 300 colleagues, we dedicate ourselves daily to providing patients with excellent guidance on their path to recovery and return home.
What are you going to do?
As a speech therapist, you are involved in examining, treating, and guiding rehabilitation patients with problems related to speech, language, voice, breathing, hearing, and swallowing.
You examine the patient, establish a speech therapy diagnosis, and incorporate speech therapy into the treatment plan. You carry out treatments, switching between various interventions tailored to the patient's situation and capabilities.
You guide rehabilitation patients and their loved ones in coping with changes in communication or swallowing. In doing so, you pay attention to the processing of these changes. You also advise on assistive devices and support their use.
You work closely with colleagues from the multidisciplinary team, such as doctors, physiotherapists, psychologists, dieticians, occupational therapists, nurses, and nutrition assistants. You participate in meetings such as the multidisciplinary team meeting (MDO) and align your treatment with the joint treatment plan.
You identify changes in health status and respond to them in a timely manner. During busy or fluctuating periods, you are able to switch gears quickly and maintain an overview.
You are someone who makes contact easily and builds trust, even with rehabilitation patients with complex issues. You observe keenly, listen well, and know how to motivate people, even when it doesn't come naturally.
You can work independently, but actively seek collaboration with colleagues. You think proactively, ask questions, and are not afraid to make decisions. You remain calm and tactful, even in challenging situations.
Flexibility suits you. You enjoy stepping in during holiday periods and peak times, and can quickly adapt to a new situation or team.
