What does a warehouse worker do?
A Warehouse Clerk works in the middle of the warehouse and is responsible for the daily flow of goods. Your duties include:
Loading and unloading trucks together with the driver
Putting goods in the right place in the warehouse
Checking products for damage or quantities
Picking orders for production or shipping
Preparing customer orders for shipment
Keeping the warehouse neat and orderly

So you are the vital link between entry and dispatch.

What does a workday look like?
You often start the day by unloading incoming trucks. Then you check the goods and put them in the right place in the warehouse. Then you start order picking: you collect products and make them ready for shipping. Meanwhile you keep track of the stock and make sure everything stays neat and orderly. At the end of the day you look around a tightly organized warehouse with a satisfied feeling.
How do you become a warehouse worker?
For this position, you do not need specific training, but a is helpful. Often you just learn the work in practice. Additional pluses:
A Forklift or reach truck certificate (sometimes obtainable through the employer)
Experience in logistics or warehouse work
Courses in safety (e.g., VCA)

As a Warehouse Worker, you will earn at least the legal hourly wage of €14.40 gross (21+, as of July 2025). The average salary is around €2,300 to €2,600 gross per month , depending on experience, shifts and sector. Supplements for evening, night and weekend shifts can significantly increase your salary.
A specific degree is not required. However, a college education in logistics or warehouse management helps.
Typically, you will work full-time (36-40 hours per week). Part-time opportunities also occur, depending on the company.
Warehouses often rotate, so you will regularly work shifts. In some companies, day shift is the standard. For irregular shifts, you'll get bonuses.

No, many companies train you internally. With motivation and commitment, you can often start right away.
Do I need to have a forklift certificate?
Not always. For some tasks it is convenient or even mandatory. Often you can get this certificate through your employer.
How hard is this work?
You are physically busy: lifting, walking and moving around a lot. But with the right tools and colleagues, it's doable.
Can I continue to grow in this profession?
Sure! You can advance to positions such as forklift driver, team leader or logistics coordinator.
